FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots signed rookie free agent defensive lineman Tom Sverchek today. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Additionally, the team released rookie wide receiver Rich Musinski.
Sverchek, 23, was originally signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2005. He was waived by the Bills on Thursday, July 28. The 6-foot-3-inch, 300-pound defensive lineman attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he played in 36 games, notching 74 tackles (45 solo) with eight sacks, a fumble recovery and two pass deflections. Sverchek is a native of San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Musinski, 24, was signed by the Patriots on July 28, 2005. He was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on April 26, 2004. The 5-foot-11-inch, 199-pound receiver played in three preseason games for the Titans in 2004 and recorded one reception for five yards. He was released by Tennessee in the final preseason roster cuts on Sept. 5, 2004.
