FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots signed first-year free agent wide receiver Rich Musinski today. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The Patriots also placed five players on the physically unable to perform list and put one player on the non-football injury list (see below). The team also placed linebacker Ted Johnson on the NFL's reserve/retired list.
Musinski, 24, was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on April 26, 2004. The 5-foot-11-inch, 199-pound receiver played in three preseason games for the Titans in 2004 and recorded one reception for five yards. He was released by Tennessee in the final preseason roster cuts on Sept. 5, 2004.
The Wilkes-Barre, Pa. native attended The College of William and Mary, where he set school records in every major receiving category. He set the Tribe's all-time marks in receptions (224), receiving yards (4,168), receiving touchdowns (31), 100-yard receiving games (21) and yards per reception (18.6). Musinski is one of just three players in Division I-AA history to record more than 4,000 receiving yards, joining Jacquay Nunnally and Jerry Rice.
