Report: Patriots 'working to get a deal done' with Edelman

While Julian Edelman has been testing the open market, CBS Sports says New England is working on a deal to retain its 100-catch receiver.

According CBS Sports the Patriots are currently working to get a deal done with free agent receiver Julian Edelman, who reportedly has been visiting with the 49ers.

CBS' Jason La Canfora Tweeted, "Patriots working to get a deal done with WR Julian Edelman. Most likely scenario all along was a return there. Few other options available."

Beyond San Francisco, reports have indicated that the Browns might also have/have had interest in Edelman, who notched a career-high 105 catches for the Patriots last fall.

Edelman had reportedly received a three-year contract offer from New England prior to the start of free agency on Tuesday, but the team wanted a response on that deal before the market opened. Edelman chose to see what was available elsewhere, but based on this more recent report may now be in the process of negotiating his return to the team that drafted him in the seventh round five years ago and converted him from college quarterback to productive NFL receiver.
