Light has one year remaining on the two-year, $12 million deal he signed with the team last summer. He's coming off what was arguably his best season as a professional, one that ended just minutes short of his fourth Super Bowl title.
On Wednesday Light appeared in Boston at the BTIP Commissions Charity Day, but he remained vague about his plans.
"At this point, I'm just kind of taking it day-by-day, but we'll see how it goes," Light said on NESN.com. "[The decision will come] sooner than later."
He also didn't give a timetable for when he would announce his decision.
"No, not really," he said, "although my wife has a pretty good idea of what's going to happen with me. She keeps me busy."
ProFootballTalk.com cited a "source with knowledge of the situation" in its report. The Boston Herald had a rather vague report saying, "It's possible Light is waiting to make his announcement following the draft. Or perhaps later."
With Light calling it a career, New England will pencil in 2011 first-round pick Nate Solder to protect Tom Brady's blindside in 2012. It will be the first season of Brady's career as a starter without Light as his primary left tackle.
Light's career closes as one of the best left tackles in Patriots history. He earned three Super Bowl rings in a career that began as a 2001 second-round pick out of Purdue. He was an All-Pro in 2007, and earned Pro Bowl honors for 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2011.
