Players to Watch: Patriots at Chiefs
Patriots.com's Mike Dussault shares his players to watch ahead of the Patriots matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Devin Asiasi, TE: After seeing just 10 snaps in each of the first two games of the season, Asiasi saw his snaps jump to 29 against the Raiders. He still hasn't been targeted in the passing game, but the trend points toward the rookie tight end getting more involved. Could this be the week he makes his first catches? The Patriots could use more production from the position.

Chase Winovich, Edge: Winovich might've made the biggest year two jump on the Patriots, leading the team with five quarterback hits while getting 1.5 sacks and forcing a fumble. He's been a playmaker and the Patriots will need him to have his best game if they're to slow down the Chiefs.

Sony Michel, RB: The third-year running back had the two longest runs of his career against the Raiders and now returns to the site of one his best games as a pro – the 2018 AFC Championship. If Michel can continue to deliver some explosive plays, the Patriots will get a huge boost against Kansas City.

Devin McCourty, S: McCourty will be responsible for keeping the back end of the Patriots defense in sync against as dangerous of a downfield passing attack as there's ever been in the NFL. Really, it will be on the entire talented secondary of the Patriots to prevent the big scoring plays. If they force extended drives and get just a few timely stops, it might shorten the game and give the Pats offense a chance to keep pace.

Patrick Mahomes, QB: By now there's little doubt about Mahomes' place atop NFL quarterbacks and he's off to a hot start, completing nearly 68 percent of his passes while tossing nine touchdowns to no interceptions. Everything the Chiefs explosive offense does goes through Mahomes and as always, he's must-watch.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB: The rookie has given an already-explosive offense even more speed. Edwards-Helaire is averaging 4.4 yards-per-carry while also picking up 11 catches through three games. He's a new threat that will stress defenses in yet another way.

Travis Kelce, TE: Yes, the Chiefs speed is their defining feature but tight end Travis Kelce is still the most important chains-mover. Kelce leads the Chiefs with 21 catches and in catch percentage. He's reliable and has a knack for getting open in key moments.

Tyreek Hill, WR: Hill is a threat to score every time he touches the ball and leads the team with three touchdown receptions. Hill's speed is just the start of the problems the Chiefs present, but he's the one that jumps off the screen the most.

Tyrann Mathieu, DB: The Chiefs defense had a good showing against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, and while the offense gets most of the attention, Mathieu is a key piece for a defense that has been playing great complementary football. Expect Mathieu to play a big role against Cam Newton and in trying to prevent the Patriots run game from finding traction.
