Players to Watch: Patriots at Titans
Patriots.com's Mike Dussault shares his players to watch during the Patriots preseason Week 2 matchup against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

Braxton Berrios, WR – Berrios had a choppy start to camp with a number of drops, but has slowly righted the ship with a strong performance against the Lions and in joint practices with the Titans. Now we should get to see the shifty slot receiver with Tom Brady throwing him the ball in a game. He'll return punts too and the more the ball is in his hands the better chance he has of making the team. With Julian Edelman still recovering from a thumb injury, Berrios figures to be an important insurance piece at a vital position.

Jakobi Meyers, WR – Meyers has been the breakout player of camp through three weeks, putting forth the most consistent performances of the new-look receiving corps. But doing it in practice and with backup quarterbacks is one thing, doing it with Tom Brady in a game is another. This should be the first time we get to see if the chemistry is really there.

Ja'Whaun Bentley, LB – Bentley might be a bit under-the-radar but he'll be one of the most active members of the Patriots linebacker group this season, especially in the middle of the field. He showed unexpected athleticism in 2018 and now, back from injury, Bentley could begin making his case as the next great Patriots inside linebacker.

Joejuan Williams, CB – No one played more than Williams in the first preseason game, and while he'll likely see a dip in playing time against the Titans, expect the second-rounder to still get plenty of snaps. He hasn't exactly burst onto the scene like some rookie corners of recent memory like Malcolm Butler or J.C. Jackson, but some game experience should go a long way. He's a big, physical corner who could really be useful this season if he can play to his strengths.

The Punters – A two-fer here because we've got ourselves a full-fledged punter competition! Ryan Allen spoke with Erik Scalavino this week and confirmed he knows what he's up against. Jake Bailey got the first half against the Lions and performed well in limited action, but they could look to switch it up this week. Either way, every punt, every field goal or extra point hold (and every kickoff for Bailey) will matter a lot.

Isaiah Wynn, OL – Wynn picked up his recovery pace this week, easing his way back into action and rotating in and out of the first team offense with Dan Skipper. After dubbing himself 100 percent, Wynn is on track to be ready to go in the season opener. We should get our first look at him at left tackle in a game against the Titans, though he's likely to only see a series or two as they continue to manage his recovery.

Duke Dawson Jr., DB – After a panned performance in Week 1 of the preseason, Dawson will be looking to get back on track, and in a loaded secondary, he's got a tough climb. Like Williams, he should see plenty of action once Jonathan Jones gets his starter's reps. Dawson had a strong day of joint practices on Thursday, setting the stage for a much-needed strong game on Saturday night.

Ryan Izzo, TE – Sometimes injuries present a golden opportunity for a random player and right now Ryan Izzo is one of those players. The second-year tight end almost had a touchdown grab up the seam against the Lions but has otherwise had a quiet summer, primarily as a blocker. With Matt Lacosse out and Lance Kedricks still working his way back, Izzo will play a bunch, including with the first team.

Terrence Brooks, DB – Brooks has quietly emerged in training camp, getting consistent reps with the top defense as well as on special teams. How exactly will he fit in? This game against the Titans should give us a pretty good idea if he's going to press the starting safety trio in real games. If the Pats have found a fourth safety who can play on defense it would be a great development.

Shilique Calhoun, LB – Calhoun has been another surprise for the defense, adding another layer of depth to an already-loaded edge group. The bad news is they might have too many edge players now, meaning Calhoun is still very much in the fire of competition. He'll need his best game yet to keep pace with guys like Derek Rivers and John Simon.
