INDIANAPOLIS — According to Bill Belichick's comments upon arriving in Indy on Sunday, Patriots All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski is "day-to-day" with the reported high ankle injury he suffered in the second half of the AFC title game win over the Ravens.
As many fans saw via NFL Network cameras, Gronkowski walked off the plane wearing a walking boot on his left ankle, although he was moving rather swiftly on his way to the team buses. Clearly, his health status for a game that's a week away remains unclear.
At least one teammate admitted it's certainly not ideal to have one of your best offensive weapons in a walking boot a week before the biggest game of the year. Many may remember that leading up to the Super Bowl XLII meeting with the Giants following the 2007, it was Tom Brady wearing a walking boot during the bye week.
"It's concerning," wide receiver Wes Welker admitted, "but at the same time you don't really worry about it. You just go out there and do your job and realize that we have a big game ahead of us and we have to prepare and get ready and all the other stuff will take care of itself in the end."
