Patriots Postgame Quotes - 10/1/2006

New England Patriots players offer comments on their 38-13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium on October 1, 2006.

TOM BRADYQuarterback

You had a nice 22-yard rush ...
"Lightning must have been striking out there. After that, I was tired. I was hoping that we would call a run on the next play. We really ran the ball great, and I think that was the key to our victory. Laurence Maroney, Corey Dillon and Kevin Faulk are like the Three Musketeers. It was great to see that."

What was the level of confidence going into this game?
"I think we were confident. I think that we're always confident. Our defense played great. We only had one turnover today, and we bounced back from that. We played well in the red zone, and converted on third downs. We looked like the Patriots that you are used to seeing."

You said that it was going to take some time for the offense to build an identity. Do you think that you guys took a major step today?
"I think it helped. I think that it gives us a bunch of confidence. For the new guys, it can be tough on them. Everyone was excited. All the guys that are here for their first year were really enthused about this game."

Is that the most comfortable you have felt so far this season?
"I think so. It's only the fourth game of the season, so there is still a long way to go. I think that we are still a long way from the team that we need to be. It was great to come on the road and play against a very good team that was 3-0 and won the division last year, and get the win. I think every bit of news that I saw had everyone picking the Bengals."

LAURENCE MARONEY
Running back

When you get close to the goal line, can you almost smell it?
"Yeah, my eyes get really big, especially when we get inside the 10-yard line."

How big was this, especially coming after last week?
"We knew that we had to come out here and work twice as hard. We knew that the run was going to have to play a big part of today's game. Basically, I came out here just to help Corey (Dillon), because it meant a lot to the guy. I just wanted to help get a win."

This NFL thing looks pretty easy ...
"No, I'm not going to say that it's easy."

How was it walking of the field after getting your first 100-yard game, and playing so well?
"It was a good feeling, especially since it meant so much to Corey (Dillon). It made him so happy, which made me happy."

TEDY BRUSCHI
Linebacker

The confidence has to be so high after a win like that...
"Yeah, we feel great. It was a big win for us, and it feels really good. How long is it going to last? Maybe another 20 hours or so. We have to refocus and play Miami. That's who we are. We forget wins and we forget losses."
