The New England Patriots released rookie wide receiver Erik Davis today.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots released rookie wide receiver Erik Davis today.

Davis, 22, was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2006. The 6-foot-2-inch, 195-pound wide receiver played in New England's first two preseason games this season and caught one pass for 15 yards. Davis attended Vanderbilt University, where he caught 124 passes for 1,767 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Nashville, Tenn. native finished his collegiate career ranked seventh in school history in both receptions and receiving yards.
