FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots signed first-year free agent offensive tackle Jon Doty today. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Doty, 24, spent the spring of 2006 as a member of the Cologne Centurions of the NFL Europe League, where he played in all 10 games with nine starts. The 6-foot-7-inch, 300-pound offensive lineman was originally signed by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2005. The Panthers released Doty in the final preseason roster cut on Sept. 3, 2005. He was signed to the New York Giants practice squad on Dec. 13, 2005, and signed a future contract with the Giants on Jan. 9, 2006. Doty was released by New York on May 30, 2006.
