FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced that they have signed RB Mike Gillislee (pronounced –gil-is-LEE) as a restricted free agent from the Buffalo Bills.
Gillislee, 26, is a veteran of four NFL seasons with Miami (2013-14) and Buffalo (2015-16). The 5-foot-11, 219-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick (164th overall) of Miami out of Florida in the 2013 NFL Draft. After playing in three games as a rookie in 2013 and spending the 2014 season on injured reserve, Gillislee was released by Miami at the end of the 2015 training camp and spent time on the Arizona and Buffalo practice squad before being signed to the Bills' 53-man roster, where he played in five games with one start. Last season, he played in 15 games with one start and finished with 101 rushing attempts for 577 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding nine receptions for 50 yards with one touchdown. He finished first in the NFL in 2016 with 5.7-yards per rush.
Overall, Gillislee has played in 23 NFL games with two starts and has 154 rushing attempts for 865 yards and 11 touchdowns and 15 receptions for 79 yards with one touchdown.
