On this St. Patrick's Day, the team confirmed the signing of former Colts slot receiver Anthony Gonzalez. Oft-injured in recent seasons, Gonzalez was a productive option for Indy earlier in his career. The 27-year-old, former first-round pick (6-0, around 195), if he can stay healthy, he could be a reliable new target for Tom Brady.
Meanwhile, The Boston Globe and ESPN are reporting that the Patriots have acquired help on defense, too, signing former Raiders DE/OLB Trevor Scott. Also 27, the 6-5, 255-pounder has been a reserve player for the most part in his four previous seasons in Oakland and has 13.5 career sacks to his credit. Like the Jonathan Fanene signing earlier this past week, New England appears to be focusing more on so-called "value" players once again, rather than proven (albeit higher-priced) talent in the free agent market. Scott would fall into that former category.
Late today, multiple media reports began surfacing as well that the Patriots are courting TE Daniel Fells (late of Denver), a player whom they've reportedly tried to acquire in off-seasons past when he was with St. Louis. New England could use some depth at the position behind stars Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

ESPN's Adam Schefter just reported that the Patriots agreed to a deal with WR Brandon Lloyd.
