FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Ryan Allen has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week by the National Football League for his performance in the Patriots' 27-0 victory over the Houston Texans last Thursday. It is the second time in Allen's career that he has received an AFC Player of the Week Honor. He also won the award following his performance in a 2014 Week 14 win at the San Diego Chargers.
Allen punted seven times for 333 yards (47.6 average) and placed six of his punts inside the opponent 20-yard line. He placed punts at the 11, 10, 10, 14, 5 and 4-yard lines while limiting the Texans to zero punt return yards. His only punt that did not land inside the 20 was downed at the 20-yard line. Ryan's previous best was five punts inside the opponent 20-yard line on Oct. 6, 2013, at Cincinnati.
Allen, whose longest punt covered 60 yards, and the Patriots' coverage unit yielded only two punt returns for seven yards.
It is the second AFC Player of the Week honor for the Patriots in 2016. Stephen Gostkowski was also named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the win at Arizona on Sept. 11.
