FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - For the 10th consecutive year, the Kraft family and the New England Patriots Foundation will serve as an official charity of the 2018 Boston Marathon.
As part of their selection, the foundation has received a limited number of marathon bibs to allow runners to represent their team on Patriots Day. All runners are required to raise a minimum of $7,500 with all proceeds supporting the New England Patriots Foundation.
The funds raised by the team will be earmarked for the 2018 Myra Kraft Community MVP Awards program, which honors volunteers from across the New England region. Myra Kraft Community MVP winners are recognized for their leadership, dedication and a commitment to bettering their communities during a luncheon at Gillette Stadium with a donation made in their name to the nonprofit organization for which they volunteer.
"We are excited to once again have the opportunity to be a part of the most historic marathon in the country," said Josh Kraft, President of the Patriots Foundation. "The funds raised by our marathon team help to promote the message of volunteerism by honoring outstanding community volunteers for a program that is very near and dear to my family's hearts. We thank the Boston Athletic Association and John Hancock for selecting us as an official charity."
Since the Patriots marathon team's inception, the foundation has raised more than $1.85 million to support nonprofit organizations across the region.
Over the years, the foundation's marathon team has featured first-time runners, lifetime marathoners, season ticket members, avid Patriots fans, a former player and more. Those who are selected to join the Patriots team will receive an official Patriots Boston Marathon team uniform, in addition to training from a marathon coach, access to training runs, fundraising tips from the Foundation and fundraising incentives.
The New England Patriots Foundation is currently accepting applications on a rolling basis. For more information on the New England Patriots Boston Marathon team, visit www.patriots.com/community/marathon-team.
