The New England Patriots will close out the 2024 preseason on the road against the Washington Commanders. It will be the 25th preseason meeting between the two teams. The game will be broadcast on prime time on NBC's Sunday Night Football. It will be the Patriots first prime time preseason game since hosting Tampa Bay in Week 3 of the 2013 preseason. The Patriots hosted Washington in the regular season last year on Nov. 5 at Gillette Stadium, a 20-17 Commanders victory.

The New England Patriots and the Washington Commanders will meet for the 24th time in the preseason, with New England holding a 15-8 advantage in the previous 23 contests. The only other teams the Patriots have played more in the preseason is the New York Giants with 31 and the Philadelphia Eagles with 25 preseason meetings.

The Patriots' 15 preseason victories over Washington are their highest total over any preseason opponent, with the Patriots' 14 victories over Philadelphia second.

The Patriots and Commanders last played in a preseason game in the first game of the 2021 preseason when the Patriots prevailed with a 22-13 win at Gillette stadium. This week's game will be Washington's fourth visit to Gillette stadium for a preseason game.

The Patriots and Washington have met in the regular season 12 times with Washington holding a 7-5 advantage. The Commanders beat the Patriots, 20-17, in the last regular season meeting on Nov. 5, 2023 at Gillette Stadium.
