Patriots license plates receive approval in Rhode Island

Red, white and blue Rhode Island license plates featuring the New England Patriots logo will soon be available in Rhode Island. Sale of plates will benefit charitable causes in Rhode Island through the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (February 22, 2010) - Red, white and blue Rhode Island license plates featuring the New England Patriots logo will soon be available in Rhode Island.

In November 2009, Governor Donald L. Carcieri signed legislation sponsored by Senator Maryellen Goodwin and Representative Edwin Pacheco authorizing a special Patriots license plate to underscore the long-standing commitment by the Kraft family and the Patriots organization to the state's community and local charitable causes. The Rhode Island State Police recently approved the design of the license plate, making them available for Rhode Island drivers.

"New England Patriot fans across Rhode Island can proudly show their support for the home town team while joining the Kraft family and the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation in helping local non-profit organizations through the purchase of these license plates," said Governor Carcieri. "On and off the field, the New England Patriots are true champions, and I am confident their fans will join them in their efforts to help the Rhode Island community through this program."

"We look forward to seeing the plates on Rhode Island roads in the near future," said Josh Kraft, President of the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation. "There are more Patriots season ticket holders per capita in Rhode Island than any other state, so we hope to see plenty of fans declaring their support while helping to raise much-needed money for causes throughout the state."

Rhode Islanders can purchase the special New England Patriots license plates for a fee of $41.50 over the regular registration fee. Of that fee, $21.50 will go into the state's general fund and $20 will go to the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation to help support charitable and philanthropic agencies in Rhode Island. For subsequent renewals, the additional fee is $10, all of which would be allocated to the foundation.

Rhode Island drivers can order their Patriots license plate by visiting www.patriots.com/community, where they can submit an order online or download a mail-in application. The first 500 orders placed as of February 1, 2010 will receive a $10 Dunkin Donuts gift card.

The plates feature both the Patriots' logo and the logo of the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, along with the text "Super Bowl Champions XXXVI, XXXVIII & XXXIX."
