FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that they have released LB Curtis Jacobs, T Caleb Jones, LB Andrew Parker Jr. and C Lecitus Smith.
Jacobs, 23, was claimed off waivers and awarded to the Patriots from Kansas City after he was released from the Chiefs on Aug. 27, 2024. The 6-foot-1, 241-pounder, was originally signed by Kansas City as a rookie free agent out of Penn State on May 4, 2024. Last season, he played in nine games with two starts and finished with 1 tackle on defense and 3 special teams tackles. Jacobs was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 19.
Jones, 26, was signed by New England to the practice squad on Sept. 3, 2024. The 6-foot-9, 370-pounder, originally signed with Green Bay as a rookie free agent on May 2, 2022 out of Indiana. He began the 2022 season on the practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster. Jones was released by Green Bay on Aug. 27, 2024. He signed a futures contract with New England on Jan. 6, 2025.
Parker, 24, was signed by New England to the practice squad on Dec. 2, 2024. The 6-foot, 235-pounder, was originally signed by Jacksonville as a rookie free agent on April 30, 2024, out of Appalachian State. Parker signed a futures contract with New England on Jan. 6, 2025.
Smith, 26, was signed by New England to the 53-man roster from the Green Bay practice squad on Oct. 15, 2024. The 6-foot-3, 314-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick (215th overall) by Arizona of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech. Smith was released by Arizona at the end of training camp in 2023 and spent the season on the practice squads of Houston and Philadelphia. He signed with Green Bay in the spring of 2024 and began the year on the practice squad for the Packers. Last season with the Patriots, he played in eight games with one start as a tackle-eligible tight end vs. the New York Jets on Oct. 27.
