FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that they have released C David Andrews.

"David Andrews' career success is a shining example of what every NFL prospect should strive to achieve," said Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft. "As a rookie free agent, David earned a starting assignment at center in his NFL debut, a position he anchored for the next decade. His leadership, work ethic, and dedication to the team earned him the respect and admiration of his coaches and teammates, who elected him as an eight-time team captain. The importance of his leadership during his career cannot be overstated. David is a true professional, and his impact on this organization will be felt for many years to come. On behalf of the entire Kraft family and the New England Patriots, I want to express my deepest gratitude for his countless contributions, and we look forward to celebrating his remarkable career."

Andrews, 32, is a veteran of 10 seasons with New England after originally joining the team as a rookie free agent out of Georgia on May 8, 2015. The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder, is a two-time Super Bowl Champion with the Patriots and was named a team captain for eight seasons. He was the starting center for a top 10 offense in each of his first four seasons (2015-sixth, 2016-fourth, 2017-first and 2018-fifth).

Andrews made his first start in the season opener in 2015 against Pittsburgh (9/10/15), becoming just the third rookie free agent to make their NFL debut as a starter on opening day since 2000, joining DL Jace Sayler (2001) and WR Kenbrell Thompkins (2013).

Overall, Andrews played in 124 regular season games with 121 starts and played in 12 postseason games with 10 starts, including three straight Super Bowls. A member of the 2010s All-Decade Team at center and the 2020 recipient of the Ron Burton Community Service Award, Andrews was limited to four games and four starts at center last season due to injury.
