Patriots Postgame Quotes

New England Patriots players comment on their game against the New York Jets at New Meadowlands Stadium on Sunday, Septmeber 19, 2010.

TOM BRADY, QBOn the differences between the two halves...
We couldn't do anything in the second half. We had a hard time gaining yards there. We didn't do anything on third down and couldn't gain anything on first or second down. We couldn't run it. We couldn't throw it, we just sucked. That's what it comes down to.

On how tough the coverage was on Randy Moss by Antonio Cromartie...
Sometimes he was close, sometimes he wasn't. I think we always have our opportunities with a lot of guys out there, but we didn't make the plays and we just couldn't connect on anything. It was very frustrating for all of us to sit in the locker room after the game knowing that we can play a lot better than we played in this second half, and we need to. That was a very frustrating performance for all of us.

On if the Jets changed their coverage once Darrelle Revis had left...
No. I think it was pretty much the same.

On if this game's problems in the second half were similar to last year's problems in the second half...
It's a different team. It's a different game. I wouldn't say it had anything to do with last year. It's an entirely different team. We just couldn't sustain anything. Like I said, we couldn't connect on anything. We had a hard time running the ball and it's very uncharacteristic. It's going to be a long week, I can promise you that. We have to get better in a lot of areas.

*On if he felt that there were missed opportunities or missed connections... *
Probably both. I think there were plays that we made. We just didn't make them.

On his comment about this year's team being different from last year's and if this loss is a setback to that mindset...
No. It's about playing consistently. We can obviously do a better job like we did in the first half. We made a lot of good plays in the first half. We were able to move the ball. We have to get the ball in the end zone; I think that's the frustrating part. (We had) way too many third-and-longs today. That was a joke. We have to do a lot better next week.

On if he was happy to see Revis out of the game...
No. It's a good defense with or without him. He's a good player. Obviously, we didn't do much in the second half and he didn't play in the second half. I wouldn't say he was the reason that they didn't play better in the first half. We just executed better in the first half.

On if he agrees with Moss' comment about the Jets having more will and determination in the second half...
I don't know. I think when it comes down to these second half games and our level of toughness, we've got to go out there and play tougher. There were times where I think we had opportunities to do a better job out there and we didn't. That's all of us, starting with me. I have to do a better job of leading this team and certainly execute better when it's crunch time.

*On the interceptions...
*The ball got batted up on the second one. The first one, it was third-and-ten, so I threw it deep and the guy intercepted it.

On his thoughts of Moss' touchdown catch...
I saw him flashing down the middle, so I gave him a chance. He made a great catch. He can make those kinds of catches.

On how disappointed he was in the second half performance since nothing changed schematically...
We just didn't execute them. You're going in the first half and we had like four drives. Two ended in touch downs, one was a missed field goal and the other was three-and-out on a play that shouldn't have been three-and-out. We messed up two plays there, then half time, then come on the second half and have a hard time gaining a yard. We just need to do a better job when it's all said and done. We need to come out and execute better in the second half. The second half of the games are critical. I think that's where our focus needs to be.

*On Mark Sanchez...
*I wasn't paying attention much to Mark.

WES WELKER, WR
On what the Jets did to stop their offense in the second half...
They didn't do much different in the second half. They just executed and made plays.

On the hit he took from Eric Smith...
I was just happy we got the first down.

*On if the Jets were more determined than them...
*Yes. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. We didn't do that today and they did.

On if they need to be concerned about how they play in the second half of games...
No. We have determined guys on our team and we are going to bounce back from this.

RANDY MOSS, WR
*On the difference in the first half and the second half...
*I don't really know. It's something you really can't answer. It just seems like it fell apart in the second half. I guess when you put a lot of hard work in through the week like we did, it is very disappointing to come out and play a good first half and not come out in the second half. From my perspective, I just have to do a little bit better. The team relied a lot on me and threw me the ball and I just really didn't make the plays in the second half. It is something that really hurts. The good thing about is we go to work on Monday. We have a (game) next week in Buffalo and have to bounce back.

What happened on the two interceptions...
The first one was miscommunication and the second one was a good play. Those things happen, those guys get paid, too. They have a scheme, they have coaches and they have players. The good thing about this, like I said, is we get to come out here next week and try to make up for this game and get back to work tomorrow.

On the difference in facing Revis and Cromartie...
It is definitely a big difference. I don't want to tip my hand, but it is a big difference. I have to commend them. Revis was a little banged up and Cromartie came in, held his own and held his ground. That is just something where the wide receivers go back to the drawing board and keep working. They had a good game plan, they executed it right. They communicated better than we did and won the game. We have to put it back (on) us and get back to the drawing board.

On his touchdown reception...
It is just everyday work. I don't know. I really don't have anything to say. It was just making a play.

On whether he noticed anything in the coverage...
I really didn't care. My job is to go out here, move the ball and catch touchdowns. I really don't think I did a good job of that today. Regardless of the touchdown, the one-handed catch, my teammates commending my on it, we did not win the game. Like I said, I really didn't care too much about it. We lost the game.

*On sensing Revis was hurting...
*No, I really couldn't tell. He hid it very well. Revis is a good player. I'm not taking anything from him. Cromartie is a good player. I'm not taking anything from him. This team is well coached. A little cocky and arrogant some times (but) you really have to commend the team. they come in and talk the talk and walk the walk. They can go out here and prove it on Sundays. Like I said man, we'll just get back to the drawing board starting tomorrow and be ready for Buffalo.

On the change of the mood in both teams at half...
It is being able to handle adversity. The Jets handled adversity the right way and we handled it the wrong way. Like I said, it is a team sport. You take the wins with the wins and the losses with the losses. This one hurts. This was a very hard working week for us, probably one of the hardest weeks I have had in my 13 years. We had a lot of expectations coming into this game – coming out of here with a victory – and we ended up coming out with a loss. This one hurts and, like I said, we will get back to the drawing board and hopefully take our frustration out on each other during the week and see how the ball rolls against Buffalo.

AARON HERNANDEZ, TEOn how he feels after his big game...
It didn't feel too good because we didn't come out with the victory. They still have to play us again and we will come back stronger. .

On his 46-yard catch and run...
It was third-down play and we needed a catch. I tried to win the match-up on my route, (Tom) Brady threw a great pass and we got the first down.

On what he learned from Randy Moss and Wes Welker...
Every day they help me during and after practice and have helped me get to where I am today.

On how the Jets slowed down the Patriots offense in the second half...
They didn't do anything to hurt ourselves. Next week, we will come back strong.

On if this is a hard loss to take...
Any loss is hard to digest because we are all winners.
