FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have signed LB Ja'Gared Davis to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. To make room for Davis on the roster, the Patriots released WR Kenbrell Thompkins.
Davis, 24, began the year with New England and was released and signed to the practice squad prior to the star of the regular season. The 6-foot, 238-pounder, was originally signed by Houston as a rookie free agent out of Southern Methodist on May 10, 2013. He was released by Houston on Aug. 27, 2013, and claimed off waivers and awarded to the Patriots on Aug. 28, 2013.
Thompkins, 26, was originally signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on May 3, 2013, out of Cincinnati. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder made the 53-man roster of training camp and played in 12 games with eight starts as a rookie, finishing the season with 32 receptions for 466 yards and four touchdowns.
