FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today the signing of 10 rookie free agents. In addition, the Patriots signed fourth-year veteran LB Shilique Calhoun and first-year DL Nick Thurman. The Patriots also released OL Ryker Matthews.
Calhoun, 27, originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft pick (75th overall) by the Oakland Raiders of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Michigan State. The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder appeared in 26 games over three seasons with the Raiders and totaled 24 tackles, a half-sack and one pass defensed. Calhoun finished his rookie season on injured reserve and had stints on Oakland's practice squad during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Thurman, 23, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Houston out of Houston on May 14, 2018. The 6-foot-4, 293-pounder was released by the Texans at the end of training camp last season. Thurman was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent on April 4, 2019, and released on April 29. He played four seasons at Houston with 44 appearances (19 Starts) and recorded 92 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries four passes defensed for the Cougars.
Matthews, 26, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with New Orleans on May 6, 2016, out of Brigham Young. The 6-foot-6, 320-pounder was released by New Orleans on May 6, 2016. Matthews played the last two seasons for the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was signed by the Patriots on February 5, 2019.
2019 ROOKIE FREE AGENTS
Calvin Anderson, 23, finished his college career at Texas after starting for three seasons at Rice. The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder was a graduate transfer to Texas, graduating with a degree in economics from Rice. He started in all 14 games at left tackle for Texas in 2018 and was named honorable mention all-Big 12.
Andrew Beck, 22, played in 51 games with 30 starts at Texas. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder finished his career with 40 receptions for 440 yards and four touchdowns for the Longhorns. He moved from linebacker to tight end in the 2014 preseason.
Nick Brossette, 23, was a four-year letter winner at running back for Louisiana State. The 6-foot, 221-pounder rushed for 1,350 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a senior in 2018, he played in 13 games with 11 starts and finished with 1,039 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
Ryan Davis, 22, is the career receptions leader for Auburn with 178 receptions and his 14th in school history with 1,555 receiving yards. The 5-foot-9, 185-pounder had 69 receptions for 546 yards and one touchdown as a senior in 2018.
Malik Gant, 21, was a former walk-on at Marshall who earned a scholarship following the 2017 spring drills. The 6-foot-2, 200-punder had a breakout sophomore season with 89 tackles in 12 games. Last season, he started in 13 games and finished with 95 total tackles and two interceptions.
Tyler Gauthier, 21, started his junior and senior seasons at center for Miami (Fla.), finishing his career with a streak of 29 straight starts. The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder started the final four games of his sophomore season at left guard before moving to center.
Terez Hall, 22, took over as a starter at linebacker at Missouri as a junior in 2017. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder finished with 71 total tackles and five sacks as a senior in 2018. He was one of eight true freshmen to see action in 2015 and was a key reserve as a sophomore in 2016.
Jakobi Meyers, 22, began his career at North Carolina State as a quarterback in 2015 before moving to receiver a week before the 2016 regular began. The 6-foot-2, 203-pounder played in all 12 games in 2018 and finished with 92 receptions for 1,047 yards and four touchdowns.
D'Angelo Ross, 22, played his final two seasons at New Mexico after beginning his college career at Fullerton Junior College. The 5-foot-9, 180-pounder played in 23 games for New Mexico and finished his college career with 85 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. He led the team with 57 tackles as a senior in 2018.
Tyree St. Louis, 22, has started at both left and right tackle during his college career at Miami. The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder first entered the starting lineup as a sophomore in 2016 when he started the final eight games at right tackle.
