FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced today the signing of RB Thomas Clayton. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
In addition, the Patriots announced the release of WR Bryan Anderson, P David King and QB Mike Teel.
Clayton, a 5-11, 222 pound running back from Kansas State, originally was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round of the 2007 draft. After spending all of 2007 on the San Francisco practice squad, he spent the first 14 weeks of 2008 as part of that unit until being signed to the active roster for the final two games of the season. He spent the 2009 season on injured reserve after getting injured during the preseason.
Anderson was signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent on April 29, 2010 out of Central Michigan. He finished his collegiate with 290 receptions for 3,648 yards and 28 touchdowns.
King was signed by the Patriots on April 14, 2010. He is a former Australian rules football player, who played in semi-pro ball for Bundoora (2001-02), Euroa (2003-07) and Norwood (2008). He came to the United States in 2009 to work towards signing with an NFL team after participating in a kicking camp in Nevada.
Teel was claimed off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks by the Patriots on May 24, 2010. He was originally drafted by Seattle in the sixth round (178th overall) of the 2009 draft out of Rutgers. Teel was inactive as the third quarterback for all 16 games as a rookie with the Seahawks. He was waived by Seattle on May 19, 2010.
