FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Over one million total viewers in the Boston market tuned in to watch the New England Patriots beat the Minnesota Vikings 30-7 on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. The high-scoring victory, which featured four Patriots interceptions and a blocked kick returned for a touchdown among other highlights, garnered a 30.7 household rating and 65 market share and was the most watched program of the week in the Boston market.
The NFL cornered the local television market for the second straight week, as five of the six most-watched programs were NFL games. Still, the Patriots reign supreme in the Boston market. Their win at Minnesota attracted more than three times the ratings of Monday Night Football's Giants-Lions game, Thursday Night Football's Steelers-Ravens game and Sunday Night Football's Bears-49ers game, despite competing with a full slate of afternoon contests.
After two weeks on the road, the Patriots return to the friendly confines of Gillette Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 21, to play their home opener against the Oakland Raiders. New England has been dominant in Foxborough over the last decade, compiling an NFL-best 81-15 record at home since 2002. The 1 p.m. kickoff will be broadcast locally on WBZ.
