PATRIOTS AND GIANTS MEET IN THE PRESEASON-FINALE FOR THE 15TH STRAIGHT SEASON
The Patriots and the Giants met in the preseason-finale for the 15 straight season and for the 29th time overall in the preseason. The two teams will meet in the regular season on Thursday Night Football on Oct. 10, 2019 at Gillette Stadium.
WR JULIAN EDELMAN MADE HIS 2019 PRESEASON DEBUT
WR Julian Edelman made his 2019 preseason debut and finished with one reception for 20 yards in a start at wide receiver.
WR DEMARYIUS THOMAS MADE HIS NEW ENGLAND DEBUT;
HAD TWO TOUCHDOWN RECEPTIONS IN THE SECOND QUARTER
WR Demaryius Thomas saw his first action as a member of the Patriots. He caught two second quarter touchdowns from QB Jarrett Stidham with a 35-yard touchdown pass and a 3-yard touchdown pass. He finished the game with seven receptions for 87 yards with the two touchdowns.
WR JOSH GORDON PLAYED IN HIS FIRST GAME OF THE 2019 PRESEASON
WR Josh Gordon played in his first game of the 2019 preseason and was in the starting lineup. He caught two passes for 30 yards.
FOURTH-ROUND PICK QB JARRETT STIDHAM STARTS THE GAME
Fourth-round QB Jarrett Stidham started and played the entire game, finishing 18-for28 for 225 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
NEWLY ACQUIRED LB SCOOBY WRIGHT III MAKES FOURTH-DOWN STOP;
FINISHED WITH TWO SACKS
Newly acquired LB Scooby Wright III tackled Giants RB Paul Perkins for no gain on a fourth-and-one rush in the first quarter. He also finished with two sacks. He sacked Giants QB Alex Tanney for a 6-yard loss on a third-down play in the second quarter. He sacked QB Kyle Lauletta for a 7-yard loss in the fourth quarter.
KEION CROSSEN AND DUKE DAWSON JR. RECORD SECOND QUARTER PICKS
Both Keion Crossen and Duke Dawson Jr. registered second quarter interceptions that helped lead to 10 points.
ROOKIE FREE AGENT RB NICK BROSSETTE SCORS THIRD TD OF THE PRESEASON
Rookie free agent RB Nick Brossette scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, his third rushing touchdown of the preseason. He on a 1-yard run at Detroit on Aug. 8, and on a 1-yard run at Tennessee on Aug. 17. He also added a two-point play on a reception following his touchdown run at Detroit.
GOSTKOWSKI GOOD FROM 51 YARDS
K Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 51-yard field goal before halftime. Gostkowski has the most 50-yard field goals in New England history with 25.
ROOKIE FREE AGENT GUNNER OLSZEWSKI AND JAKOB JOHNSON PLAY ION ALL THREE PHASES
Rookie free agent Gunner Olszewski played wide receiver, returned kicks and saw action at cornerback, while Jakob Johnson played fullback on offense, linebacker on defense and on special teams. Olszewski played defensive back throughout his college career and made the transition to wide receiver after joining the Patriots. He caught two passes for 35 yards, including a 29-yard reception that helped set up K Stephen Gostkowski's 51-yard field goal before halftime. He also returned a third quarter kickoff for 35 yards. Olszewski registered one solo tackle on defense. Julian Edelman was the last Patriots player to play in all three phases when he saw action on offense, defense and on special teams in the AFC Championship Game vs. Baltimore on Jan. 22, 2012.
