Game Notes: Patriots Defense Generates Five Sacks for Second Straight Game

PATRIOTS DEFENSE GENERATES FIVE SACKS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT GAME

The Patriots defense generated five sacks in back-to-back games with five sacks vs. Carolina in the preseason-opener and five sacks vs. Philadelphia. The Patriots had five different players record a sack against the Eagles with LB Oshane Ximines, LB Joshua Uche, DL Deatrich Wise Jr., CB Isaiah Bolden and DE Keion White each recording sacks tonight.

JACOBY BRISSETT MAKES SECOND START OF THE PRESEASON

QB Jacoby Brissett made his second start of the preseason and played the entire first quarter, leading the Patriots on three offensive drives before being relieved by QB Drake Maye.

DRAKE MAYE ENTERED THE GAME IN THE SECOND QUARTER

Patriots 2024 first-round draft pick QB Drake Maye entered the game in the second quarter and played through the third quarter. He led the Patriots on scoring drives on his first two drives. On his first drive, he engineered an 8-play, 38-yard drive that ended with a 51-yard field goal by K Joey Slye. Maye completed 3- of-4 passes for 18 yards on the drive. Maye culminated his second drive, an 8-play, 49-yard drive, with a 4- yard touchdown run. That drive was highlighted by a 23-yard pass to RB JaMychal Hasty. Maye finished 6-of11 for 47 yards passing.

SLYE CONNECTS ON A 51-YARD FIELD GOAL

Joey Slye put the Patriots on the scoreboard in the second quarter when he connected on a 51-yard field goal. He is 20 of 32 in his career from 50-yards. His career-best was a 61-yard field goal vs. Philadelphia on Oct. 29, 2023, when he played for Washington. Slye added a 45-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. In the regular season, Slye has seven games with at least one field goal of 50 yards or more and one of 40 yards or more.

BARINGER BOOMS TWO 60-YARD PUNTS

P Bryce Baringer's first punt was a 64-yarder that pinned Philadelphia at the 1-yard line. His second punt went for 61-yards. As a rookie last season, Baringer had three games with at least two 60-yard punts (at Miami on Oct. 29, vs. Indianapolis on Nov. 12 and vs. the New York Jets on Jan. 7). He is the only Patriots player to have at least two games with two 60-yard punts in a season. Overall, in 2023, Baringer had 12 punts of 60 or more yards.

BARINGER LOOKS TO CONTINUE A STREAK

As a rookie in 2023, Baringer had at least one 50-yard punt in all 17 games, the longest single-season streak in team history. The NFL record for the longest streak with at least one 50-yard punt since 1970 is 38 by Shane Lechler (2007-10).

SCHOOLER SEES ACTION AT SAFETY FOR SECOND STRAIGHT GAME

S Brenden Schooler continued to see action at safety for the second straight game. Last season, he played in his first and only defensive snaps of his career on a Hail Mary attempt on the final plays vs. Buffalo (10/22) and at Denver (12/24).

ISAIAH BOLDEN REGISTERS A SACK

CB Isaiah Bolden sacked Philadelphia QB Kenny Pickett for a 2-yard loss on a third-and-six situation in the second quarter. It was his first NFL sack.

PURCELL COMES UP BIG ON FOURTH DOWN

DT Mike Purcell stopped Philadelphia RB Lew Nichols on a fourth-and-one run in the second quarter.

WALLIS HAS A 53-YARD KICKOFF RETURN

Following a 23-yard punt return vs. Carolina in the preseason-opener in the second quarter, rookie free agent WR David Wallis returned a fourth quarter kickoff 53 yards. Wallis had his first NFL reception on a 12- yard reception from QB Joe Milton later in the fourth quarter.

MILTON AND ZAPPE FINISH THE GAME

2024 sixth-round draft pick QB Joe Milton III entered the game in the fourth quarter and played two drives before being relieved by QB Bailey Zappe. Milton was 2-of-7 for 20 yards and Zappe was 3-of-4 for 29 yards.
