FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have signed free agent WR Dontrelle Inman and OL Jared Veldheer. Terms of the contracts were not announced. In addition, the Patriots released OL Calvin Anderson and WR Xavier Ubosi.
Inman, 30, originally entered the NFL as rookie free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Virginia on July 28, 2011, and was released at the end of training camp. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder went on to play two seasons (2012-13) with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League and won the Grey Cup with Toronto in 2012.
Inman re-joined the NFL ranks in 2014 with the San Diego Chargers and played three-and-a-half seasons with the Chargers before being traded to the Chicago Bears on Oct. 26, 2017. Last season, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 16, 2018, and played in nine regular-season games with four starts and caught 28 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns. Inman also played in both Colts playoff contests with one start and registered eight receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown.
Overall, Inman has played in 58 NFL regular-season games with 34 starts and totaled 158 receptions for 2,101 yards and 11 touchdowns. His best season came with the Chargers in 2016 when he caught 58 passes for 810 yards and four touchdowns.
Veldheer, 31, is a veteran of nine NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders (2010-13), Arizona Cardinals (2014-17) and Denver Broncos (2018). The 6-foot-8, 321-pounder originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft pick (69th overall) by Oakland out of Hillsdale College in the 2010 NFL Draft. After four seasons with the Raiders, Veldheer was signed by Arizona as an unrestricted free agent on March 12, 2014. He was traded by Arizona to Denver on March 23, 2018.
Veldheer has played in 118 regular-season games with 113 starts and has started in three postseason games. He has started games at left tackle, right tackle and center during his career. Last season with Denver he played in and started in 12 games at right tackle.
Anderson, 23, signed with the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Texas on May 2, 2019. The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder finished his college career at Texas after starting for three seasons at Rice. Anderson was a graduate transfer to Texas, graduating with a degree in economics from Rice. He started in all 14 games at left tackle for Texas in 2018 and was named honorable mention All-Big 12.
Ubosi, 25 signed with the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) on May 6, 2019. The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder began his college career at Pierce College before transferring to UAB. Ubosi played in 20 games during his two-year stint at UAB and finished with 48 receptions for 1,065 yards and nine touchdowns. Last season, he tallied 35 receptions for 837 yards and eight touchdowns.
