Omar Young joins the Patriots as an offensive coaching assistant in 2024 after spending two seasons with the Chicago Bears.
Most recently, Young served as the Bears' assistant quarterbacks and wide receivers coach in 2023, where he coached WR D.J. Moore to career-bests in receptions (96), receiving yards (1,364) and touchdowns (8). Young also spent time coaching running backs in Chicago in 2023, and the offense finished second in the league in rushing for the season. He spent 2022 with Chicago as an offensive quality control coach, returning to the NFL after three seasons coaching at the collegiate level. In 2022, Chicago's offense rushed for a franchise-record 3,014 yards and led the league in rushing yards, rushing average and rushing yards per game.
Young served in various roles at Eastern Illinois University (2019-21), beginning as the running backs coach for the 2019 season before being promoted to co-special teams coordinator for two seasons (2020-21). While working as running backs coach, Young coached two running backs that finished top 10 in rushing in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2021. He also coached a freshman All-American (2019) and a second-team All-OVC kick returner (2020) in his time with the program. Young came to EIU after spending two seasons as an offensive quality control coach for the Green Bay Packers (2017-18).
In his first NFL coaching role, Young spent the 2015 season as an offensive intern for the Cleveland Browns. He then joined the University of South Carolina coaching staff in February 2016 as an analyst before heading to Green Bay in 2017.
Young's first full-time Division I coaching role was at the University of Colorado (2013-14), where he was the team's director of quality control.
Young's coaching career began at the Division II and junior college levels, working with De Anza (Calif.) College in 2009 and Minnesota State Moorhead University in 2010.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Young worked as an intern for the Oakland Raiders and the Arena Football league's San Jose SaberCats during the 2007-08 seasons, assisting the personnel department.
Young played defensive back at Willamette University for two years before transferring to Savannah State University, where he worked as a student assistant and video coordinator for the football program.
Young was born on Sept. 3, 1983, and grew up in Oakland, Calif. He currently resides in Massachusetts with his wife, Noel.
