Tras 60 minutos de realizar un fútbol irregular, los Patriots terminaron sufriendo su segunda derrota consecutiva al caer ante los Kansas City Chiefs por 23-16.
Un juego que empezó con augurios para los locales tras un TD de Brady y una intercepción de la defensiva por parte de su esquinero JC Jackson, se tornó apático y sumamente flojo para New England que tuvo que irse al medio tiempo con el marcador 20-7 en contra.
En la segunda mitad las cosas empezaron a mejorar, después de un gol de campo de los visitantes, los equipos especiales, a través de Nate Ebner, quien bloquea un balón que devolvió a Brady y su ofensiva en la yarda 19 de Kansas. Dos jugadas después Brandon Bolden anota un TD tras correr 10 yardas.
Luego ocurrirían algunas jugadas donde los árbitros tuvieron influencia, no necesariamente a favor de los Patriots. Entre ellas podemos mencionar:
Un balón suelto de Travis Kelce que fue cobrado erróneamente como jugada muerta por contacto, los Patriots retan la jugada y la ganan a su favor.
Más tarde un TD de N'Keal Harry es anulado porque según los árbitros, el WR pisó fuera del campo, la repetición mostró claramente que esto no fue así, pero los Patriots no pudieron hacer nada ya que ya no tenían más retos disponibles, razón por la que la jugada no fue revisada.
Más tarde, a unos 3 minutos del final, un pase profundo de Brady a Dorsett es considerado incompleto cuando la repetición mostró una interferencia del defensor de Kansas.
"Muchas circunstancias en el juego. No hace sentido hablar acerca de eso", dijo Belichick en su conferencia después del partido.
De cualquier manera, los Patriots se colocaron a 7 puntos de igualar el marcador y en situación de cuarta oportunidad y tres, a solo 1:11 del final, desde la yarda 5 de los Chiefs, el pase de Brady a Edelman es incompleto, sellando así el destino del partido.
Brady finalizó su actuación completando 19 de 36 pases para 169 yardas, 3 capturas, 1TD, 1 INT. Su receptor más efectivo fue Julian Edelman (8 de 12 atrapadas para 95 yardas, 1TD).
El juego de carrera sumó 94 yardas en 22 acarreos, teniendo a James White como su corredor más efectivo (6 acarreos, 33 yardas).
Mahomes completó 26 de 40 pases para 283 yardas, 1 captura, 1 TD y 1 INT. Travis Kelce fue su WR más efectivo con 7 de 9 atrapadas para 66 yardas. EL juego de carrera de los Chiefs solo sumó 75 yardas.
Los Patriots ahora viajarán a Cincinnati para enfrentar a los Bengals el próximo domingo (1:00 P.M. ET)
