Patriots Sign OL Matt Tobin to the 53-Man Roster; Sign RB Josh Ferguson to the Practice Squad

The Patriots announced today that they have signed OL Matt Tobin to the 53-man roster and RB Josh Ferguson to the practice squad.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that they have signed OL Matt Tobin to the 53-man roster and RB Josh Ferguson to the practice squad. Tobin went to training camp with New England and was released on Sept. 1.

Tobin, 28, was signed by the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 3, 2018 and was inactive for two games before being released by the 49ers on Sept. 19. The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder was signed by the New England as an unrestricted free agent from Seattle on March 17, 2018. He played four seasons in Philadelphia (2013-16) and one in Seattle (2017). Tobin originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Philadelphia out of Iowa in 2013. He was traded from Philadelphia to Seattle last August. Tobin has played in 57 NFL games with 21 starts.

Ferguson, 25, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Indianapolis out of Illinois in 2016. He made Colts 53-man roster out of training camp and played in all 16 games, finishing with 15 rushing attempts for 20 yards and 20 receptions for 136 yards. Overall, he has played in 26 NFL games. The 5-10, 205-pounder, began the 2017 season the Indianapolis practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster in late October and playing in 10 games. Ferguson was released by Indianapolis on Sept. 18, 2018, before being signed to the Houston practice squad on Oct. 17. He was released from the Houston practice squad on Oct. 23.
