Deron Mayo enters his first season as head strength and conditioning coach and his seventh season with the New England Patriots in 2024. Mayo joined the organization in 2018 after playing linebacker for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League for six seasons. He leads the team's year-round strength and conditioning program following attaining a master's degree in high performance sport from the University of Technology-Sydney.
Mayo played linebacker for six seasons in the CFL for the Calgary Stampeders. He appeared in 87 regular season contests and five playoff games during his pro career and won a Grey Cup with the Stampeders in 2014. Mayo totaled 277 tackles on defense, 33 tackles on special teams, 14 sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery over six seasons. Mayo played his final collegiate season with Old Dominion after spending his first three seasons at Hofstra University (2007-09). He was co-captain of the Old Dominion Monarchs in 2010 and became the first ODU grad to sign with an NFL team when he went to training camp with the Denver Broncos in 2011.
Mayo is a Hampton, Virginia, native, and played four seasons at Kecoughtan High School. He was named to the All-Peninsula District First Team and All-Area Second Team as a senior. Deron's older brother, Jerod, was a first-round draft pick of the New England Patriots in 2008 and played eight seasons for the team before his retirement following the 2015 season. Mayo earned his Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Hofstra. He holds a CSCS certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and recently completed a master's degree in High Performance Sport at the University of Technology-Sydney (UTS).
He and his wife, Janelle, have two daughters, Maliya and Marley, and a son, Myles.
