FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have released OL Caleb Benenoch from the 53-man roster and WR Cameron Meredith. LB Scooby Wright was also released from the practice squad.
Benenoch, 25, was signed by New England on Sept. 17, 2019. The 6-foot-5, 305-pounder is in his fourth NFL seasons. He entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick (148th overall) by Tampa Bay in the 2016 NFL Draft out of UCLA. He has played in 35 games with 22 starts. Last season, he started all 16 games at right guard. Benenoch was released by Tampa Bay on Sept. 11, 2019, after playing in a reserve role in the Buccaneers Week 1 game against San Francisco. He was inactive for two games with New England.
Meredith, 27, Signed with the Patriots on Aug. 2, 2019, and was placed was placed on reserve/physically unable to perform on Aug. 31. The 6-foot-3, 207-pounder is a veteran of four NFL seasons with Chicago (2015-17) and New Orleans (2018). Meredith was released by New Orleans on July 29, 2019. He has played in 31 games with 11 starts and has 86 receptions for 1,122 yards and five touchdowns.
Wright, 25, who had a brief stint with the Patriots during training camp, was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 20. The 6-foot, 247-pounder entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (250th overall) of the Cleveland Browns out of Arizona in the 2016 NFL Draft. He began his rookie season on Cleveland's 53-man roster before being released and signed to the practice squad. Wright was signed by Arizona off the Cleveland practice squad on Dec. 13, 2016, and played in the final three games of the season. He split the 2017 season between the Arizona practice squad and 53-man roster, seeing action in 10 games. Wright was released by Arizona at the end of training camp last season.
