Patriots Make A Series of Transactions

The Patriots announced today that DT Christian Barmore has been activated to the 53-man roster. In addition, the Patriots released WR Tyquan Thornton and elevated LB Keshawn Banks and LB Joe Giles-Harris to the active roster from the practice squad.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that DT Christian Barmore has been activated to the 53-man roster. Barmore was placed on the Reserve/NFI List on Aug. 27, 2024. In addition, the Patriots released WR Tyquan Thornton and elevated LB Keshawn Banks (pronounced – KEY-shawn) and LB Joe Giles-Harris to the active roster from the practice squad.

Thornton, 24, was drafted by New England in the second-round of the 2022 NFL Draft (50th overall) out of Baylor. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder, has played in 28 games with 13 stars and has registered 39 receptions for 385 yards with 2 touchdowns and 6 rushing attempts for 67 yards with 1 touchdown. Thornton has played in 6 games with 1 start in 2024 and has 4 receptions for 47 yards.

Banks, 24, was signed by New England to the practice squad on Oct 23, 2024. He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Green Bay Packers out of San Diego State on May 1, 2023. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder, spent the entire 2023 season on the Green Bay practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster for the Packers NFC Divisional playoff game at San Francisco on Jan. 20, 2024 and made his NFL debut with limited action on defense and special teams. Banks went to training camp with Green Bay this past summer but was released prior to the start of the regular season.

Giles-Harris, 27, was elevated to the active roster prior to the Patriots game at the New York Jets on Oct. 27 and last week at Chicago on Nov. 10 and has 2 total tackles on defense. He was originally signed by New England on Aug. 9, 2023 and spent the entire year on the practice squad. The 6-foot-2, 234-pounder, has spent time with Jacksonville (2019-20) and Buffalo (2021-22) on the practice squad and active roster after originally entering the NFL as a rookie free agent with Jacksonville out of Duke on April 28, 2019. After two seasons rotating between the 53-man roster and the practice squad with Jacksonville, Giles-Harris was signed by Buffalo on Aug. 31, 2021 after being released by Jacksonville on May 16, 2021. He has played in 19 regular season games with three starts and has 20 total tackles and 1 sack. He was released by New England on Aug. 27, 2024 and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 2, 2024.
